Reducing Injury In Auckland City

Injury prevention workers come together to celebrate the launch of Auckland City’s Communities Living Injury Free programme.

On Wednesday, 2 June at 11.30am over one hundred people will gather at the Mt Albert War Memorial Hall to celebrate the successes and achievements of those coalitions and providers actively involved in Auckland City’s injury prevention programme.

Communities Living Injury Free, a programme funded by the Ministry of Health, aims to reduce the amount and severity of injures in the Auckland city area. Auckland City runs the programme and works in collaboration with agencies and communities to provide a community based approach.

Wednesday’s celebration will be an ideal opportunity for journalists to meet with key people working in collaboration with Auckland City on injury prevention initiatives. Organisations including SafeKids, the Child Safety Foundation, Plunket, Watersafe Auckland, Age Concern, Alcohol Healthwatch, NZ Police, the NZ Fire Service, and Housing New Zealand will be there. Representatives from Primary Health Organisations, the Auckland District Health Board, local Maori and Pacific Island health providers will also be there, as will key researchers and academics who specialise in this area.

The agenda for the launch features a welcome, performance of our key messages from the Improv Bandits, and children from St Joseph’s primary school in Otahuhu will perform an injury prevention song that was composed for them. A light lunch and informal networking will follow.
