Extreme Outdoor Adventures for teens

18 June 2004

Extreme Outdoor Adventures for teens on the holiday menu!

Manukau City Council's 'Manukau OnThe Move' team have organised another fun packed school holiday break for teens, with plenty of outdoor action laced with thrills and spills.

Their one week Teen Extreme programme offers a range of outdoor adventure pursuits for 12 to 16 year olds, running from Monday 12 July to Friday 16 July. Participants can select which days they want to attend or, for the really energetic, take part in the whole week!

Programme co-ordinator, Shane McGuire says, "This programme will suit enthusiastic teenagers who are keen to take up the challenge of a range of activities throughout the week. These include mountain biking, caving, bush adventure, activities at Camp Adair and sea kayaking.

"Monday sees teens developing kayaking skills, along coastline on the North Shore; participants can explore the Nikau Caves on Tuesday in their old warm clothes and shoes, and they'll need a change of clothes; bushcraft skills can be honed on Wednesday, along with outdoor cooking in a rustic bush setting; at Camp Adair on Thursday archery, initiative games and rope courses are the name of the game; and participants can round the week off at Woodhill by testing their skills in off-road mountain biking mayhem, using their own bikes, or hiring one"

All specialist equipment, apart from bikes, is provided and qualified instructors are on hand. Pick up and drop off points are Howick Recreation Centre and Alan Brewster Recreation Centre at Papatoetoe. Cost is $40 per day or $175 for the whole week with an extra $15 for mountain biking. Interested teens should phone 274 6904 for more information and registration details.
