No funding cut for new Clendon Library
Contrary to the report published in the Manukau Courier of Tuesday, 29 June, Manukau City councillors have not overturned their initial decision to build a new $3.8 million library for Clendon.
At last week's Council meeting, councillors approved that a sum of $2.45 million for the building and fit out of the new Clendon library be included in the 2004/05 Annual Plan. This is in addition to the sum of $1.35 million already included in the draft Annual Plan for the new Clendon library.
Councillors also approved for inclusion in the Long-term Council Community Plan $102,000 for operational costs for the new library for the 2005/06 year and $372,000 for operational costs and debt repayment for the 2006/07 year.
Officers are currently exploring options for the delivery of library services between the end of the current lease (31 December 2004) and when the new library opens.
