Farmers to call Fonterra before spilling milk

For immediate release: Wednesday 21 July 2003 Flood-affected dairy farmers with milk that cannot be picked up are asked to call Fonterra for advice on how to dispose of it.

Some eastern Bay of Plenty farmers are being forced to spill stores of milk because milk tankers have not been able to reach them over the past few days.

Fonterra and Environment Bay of Plenty have worked together on a protocol for this practice to limit damage to the environment.

“We need to make sure people get the right advice so they don’t cause any further problems when they do it,” explains Dave Wright, Environmental Manager for Fonterra.
