Connex to Take Over Auckland’s Trains Next Month

Connex Due to Take Over Auckland’s Trains Next Month

23 July 2004

Connex Auckland is expected to take over the day-to-day running of Auckland’s passenger rail service on 22 August. An industrial issue between the current rail operator, Toll NZ, and the Rail and Maritime Transport Union, had delayed the transfer. All parties are now working together to ensure a smooth transfer next month.

The transfer date is subject to a new collective agreement being negotiated by Connex and the RMTU. Initially rail passengers will notice only a few minor changes when Connex begins operations, as ticket types and prices, as well as fare boundaries and service timetables, will remain the same. The ARC and Connex will work in partnership to improve the delivery of passenger rail services, and together with our regional transport partners, will continue over time to enhance and develop Auckland’s rail network.
