Auckland City’s long-term plans finalised

Auckland City’s final long-term planning document, called Focus on the Future 2004-2014, will be published on 1 August.

The long-term council community plan (LTCCP) contains council’s policies and strategies for the next 10 years to achieve what the community has said it wants, and how much these plans will cost.

The draft long-term plans went out for public consultation in April.

Council adopted the plans in June after considering some 669 written submissions of which 141 were heard verbally.

Strategies and plans in Focus on the Future 2004-2014 include: holding rates to the level of inflation so that most residential ratepayers will pay an increase of just under $1.12 per week unless their property is in a specific targeted rate area (the CBD or Waiheke Island) building a 12,000 seat indoor arena in downtown Auckland working with the Bluewater Consortium on the $350 million redevelopment of the Britomart precinct the possibility of bringing the V8 street car race to Auckland (subject to resource consent) carrying out major revitalisation projects in the CBD upgrading all footpaths by 2014, starting with a $10.3 million investment in the 2004/2005 financial year as part of a $115 million investment over the next 10 years a $5.3 million, five-year sand replenishment programme for eight city beaches. In the 2004/2005 financial year, $300,000 has been approved for plans and design work for the programme considering the purchase of key areas of land, including waterfront property, to ensure high quality urban design and development in the city.
