Entries wanted for Villa Maria Cult - Couture Wearable Art Awards
Manukau City Council invites established and budding designers to meld culture and high fashion to create a wearable ' taonga' to compete with other like minded individuals in a unique spectacular, the Villa Maria Cult Couture Wearable Art Awards.
Organiser Leisa Siteine says the event being held for the third year, is about reflecting the diverse cultures and life of Manukau through a contemporary wearable statement.
"We want people to let their imaginations soar and enter a wearable art piece in one of our creative categories. From 'Recycled Revolution', to 'On the Streets' to 'Matrimonial Bliss' we are looking for unique fashion statements that show a creative spirit and an original cultural interpretation.
"Our categories are flexible enough to include designs that are traditional, surreal or outrageous. People can use environmental materials to fine silks and everything in between. We want to see designs that have strong cultural elements and that are unique.
"Judges for the event include Kim Frazer, Multiple Award Winner Benson & Hedges and Smokefree Fashion Awards; Caroline Barley, Director Nova Modelling Agency; Harry Howe, Manager Saks; Brett Graham, Nationally renowned artist, Neva Ritemanu, award winning radio news reader," says Leisa.
Each category winner receives $500 cash prize, runner up $250, with the supreme winner receiving $2,000.
The event is organised by Manukau City Council and sponsored by Villa Maria, Meredith Connell, Auckland International Airport, MCC Waste Management and GHD Limited, and supported by Toi O Manukau and Enterprising Manukau.

The show, on Friday 1 October will be held at Elliot Hall, St Kentigern College, Pakuranga, and will showcase the entries in six categories and include musical performances.
