Preferred option for $13.5m upgrade of Tiverton Road and Wolverton Street released

Auckland City’s $13.5m plan for improvements to Tiverton Road and Wolverton Street in New Windsor is being sent to local residents this week. The upgrade will enable Tiverton Road and Wolverton Street to cope with future transport demands, particularly Transit New Zealand’s State Highway 20 (SH20) extension, and is an essential connection between Auckland city and Waitakere.

The proposed improvements include: widening Tiverton Road and Wolverton Street to accommodate four traffic lanes in peak traffic periods, so traffic and bus travel times are improved intersection upgrades to provide safer intersections for vehicles and pedestrians at: St Georges and Wolverton roads Wolverton Street, Blockhouse Bay and Tiverton roads Whitney Street and Tiverton Road New Windsor and Tiverton roads undergrounding overhead power lines construction of retaining walls on Tiverton Road significant streetscape and landscaping.

Details of the proposed upgrade are contained in a comprehensive brochure, which will be available in the Blockhouse Bay, Mt Albert and Avondale libraries from the end of this week. Further public consultation will be conducted in 2005 during the detailed design phase. The Tiverton Road and Wolverton Street upgrade is planned to tie in with completion of the SH20 Mt Roskill extension, due in 2008/2009.
