Mayoral candidate unveiling new sign for Wellington
Mayoral candidate unveiling new sign for Wellington from Stephen Hay (Anti-Capitalist Alliance)
Wellington Mayoral candidate Stephen Hay is opposed to the purchase of two electronic scrolling signs for the new Wellington Stock Exchange.
The sign will cost ratepayers about $450 000, and has ongoing costs of $42,000.
"This is a gross waste of money that should be spent on infrastructure that directly affects Wellington's standard of living," said Hay.
Hay will be setting up his own sign in protest in Civic Square at 12:15pm on Thursday, 23 September. His sign will display the adult and youth minimum wage and the average wage.
"If council want to show us how wealthy the rich are then I think that they should have to look at a sign that shows how poor the workers are" said Hay. Hay's sign will cost about $5.
