Diversion for southbound traffic - Paremata Bridge

Transit Wellington Regional Office Media Release

5 October 2004

Temporary diversion for southbound traffic on Paremata Bridge

Southbound traffic currently using the 'old' Paremata Bridge on State Highway 1 will be temporarily diverted to the 'new' bridge from noon on Wednesday 6 October while work is carried out on the old bridge approaches. The diversion is expected to be in place for about the next eight weeks * weather permitting.

"Traffic is being diverted to the new bridge to allow us to construct a bus bay and reconstruct the southbound lane and northern approach of the old bridge," said project manager Catherine Worsley.

"This is the second stage of the process to fully commission the bridges. When the second stage work is completed, southbound traffic would return to the old bridge while guardrails and traffic islands are installed between the bridges."

Motorists and pedestrians are reminded to take extra care while this work is in progress.
