Action Hobson Promises Constructive Approach

Action Hobson has reiterated its commitment to work with all members of the Auckland City Council to deliver to Aucklanders modern Rapid Transit Solutions, preserve the city's heritage and promote stronger communities.

Action Hobson won two of the three seats it was seeking on the Auckland City Council today, with Christine Caughey by far the top-polling candidate in the Hobson Ward, with over 10,000 votes, and Richard Simpson receiving over 8,000 votes.

"Congratulations to all councillors who have been elected today," Christine Caughey and Richard Simpson said tonight.

"In particular, congratulations to Scott Milne who will be joining us as the third Hobson Ward representative on council. Scott has won a significant personal vote and we are committed to working with him to promote the interests of this community."

Christine Caughey and Richard Simpson also congratulated Neil Abel, Douglas Armstrong, Leila Boyle, Cathy Casey, Bill Christian, Glenda Fryer, John Hinchcliff, Bruce Hucker, Linda Leighton, Toni Millar, Graeme Mulholland, Richard Northey, Noeline Raffills, Penny Sefuiva, Faye Storer, and Vern Walsh on their likely election to the Auckland City Council, with 98% of votes counted.

"We are looking forward to meeting all councillors over the next few days to discuss how the new council can work in the most constructive way possible," Christine Caughey and Richard Simpson said.

Christine Caughey and Richard Simpson noted that the party balance on the new council appeared to be Action Hobson (2) Citizens & Ratepayers Now (6), City Vision (6), Labour (3) and two independents, plus an independent Mayor.

Action Hobson is not aligned with any other block on council and would work with the Hobson community and all councillors of goodwill, Christine Caughey and Richard Simpson said.

Christine Caughey and Richard Simpson also thanked Greg Liggins for his strong campaign for council and outstanding contribution to Action Hobson. "Every Action Hobson supporter regrets that Greg has just missed out on election. He would have made an outstanding councillor. We thank him on behalf of Action Hobson."
