Feedback welcomed on additional bus lane proposed for Mt Eden Road

Auckland City is calling for submissions on an additional bus and bike lane proposed for the city end of Mt Eden Road.

The lane would run along the western side of Mt Eden Road, between Esplanade Road and approximately 100m south of Boston Road, and aims to further increase bus use and improve bus service reliability along this heavily patronised route.

The bus and bike lane would operate Monday to Friday between 7am and 9am.

General traffic travelling towards the city would use one lane, as per the current situation, however existing on-street parking would be removed in the morning to accommodate the bus lane during operating times.

In addition to the proposed lane, a pedestrian refuge would be installed just north of the railway bridge to ensure pedestrians can safely access the railway station. The current bus stop and shelter on the western side of the railway bridge would be relocated 10m south to maximise pedestrian safety when using this refuge.

Bus priority lanes are an essential part of Auckland City’s strategy to make Auckland’s roads work smarter and get more people using passenger transport around the city.

A submission form has been sent to residents and property owners along the route of the proposed lane, and submissions can also be made online: www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/transport. The closing date for submissions is Wednesday 3 November.
