Christchurch City Council to farewell Apirana Taylor 4 December

Christchurch City Council will farewell Apirana Taylor -- award-winning poet, musician actor and painter ¨C on behalf of the city at a ceremony in Our City O-Tautahi on Saturday, 4 December from 6-7pm.

In 2002 Mr Taylor came to Christchurch from the North Island to take up Canterbury University¡¯s Ursula Bethel residency in creative writing. His poetry has been published nationally and internationally and translated into several languages. While in the city, he has performed work and worked with young people.

He says he has enjoyed his stay in the South Island but feels it is now time to return to his whanau in the north.

On behalf of the City and Council, Councillor Anna Crighton will present Mr Taylor with a gift of appreciation. Mr Taylor will read his poetry accompanied by contemporary and traditional Maori music.

The event is open to the public. Entry is by gold coin donation.
