Kingsland overbridge heads for council briefing
Auckland City’s Planning and Regulatory Committee resolved at their first meeting this week to urgently review an application from the Eden Park Trust Board for an airspace licence for an overbridge at Kingsland railway station.
A briefing of the full council will be held prior to the 16 December 2004 council meeting to consider issues relating to this project.
Issues the council wish to explore include community consultation outcomes, traffic management, planning and urban design, financial implications and an assessment of likely use of the airbridge outside major sporting events.
Committee chairperson Councillor Glenda Fryer urged the Eden Park Trust Board to consult with relevant community groups. “The development can have a significant impact on Eden Park and it is only fair that the local community is kept advised of major proposals and have their opinions taken account of by council when they make their decisions,” she says.
The Eden Park Trust Board says that a February start on construction would be necessary for the overbridge to be ready for the influx of spectators for the July Lions’ tour. If the bridge is not underway in time for the tour, the Eden Park Trust Board would still like the overbridge to be considered as a future project.
