Tsunami help from Auckland City

Tsunami help from Auckland City

Mayor of Auckland City, Dick Hubbard has pledged $7000 from his mayoral discretionary fund to assist aid work in the Indian Ocean area following the tsunami disaster.

In addition, he has made a personal donation to help in the relief effort.

The mayor also wants to consider other ways Auckland City can help such as forming a close relationship with an affected area or city.

“I want to look at opportunities for our city to help beyond the immediate disaster relief assistance. Over the next two to three years as cities and towns in the area go through the rehabilitation and restoration process there will be an ongoing need for help,” says Mr Hubbard.

The mayor will discuss with chief executive Bryan Taylor opportunities for Auckland City to provide assistance.
