New Pipe Bridge To Span Kahika Stream

North Shore City Council is upgrading the sewers in Beach Haven as part of its 20-year, $210m programme to improve the water quality of the city's beaches and streams.

Stage one of the project, to replace the trunk sewer to the storage tank in Kahika Rd, has already been completed and stage two is about to begin.

North Shore City wastewater project engineer, Thien Yet Liew, says this involves building a pipe bridge over Kahika Stream to support a new 40m-long sewer pipe.

"The new sewer line will link up with the other main sewers," he says.

"The bridge has also been designed to provide a footbridge, and eventually a walkway around the park. Once the project is complete the gully will also be restored with planting."

Some minor traffic disruption in Beach Haven Rd is expected during the council's $580,000 project, which begins later this month and is expected to be finished in July.

The pipe bridge will also be inaccessible until the footbridge is built.
