Christchurch City Council chief executive remuneration reviewed

Christchurch City Council has increased the remuneration package of its chief executive, Dr Lesley McTurk, by 9.8 per cent to $335,355, says Mayor Garry Moore.

The Council considered the matter at its 16 December meeting and took advice which included a performance review process, including input from key external stakeholders and information about New Zealand chief executive officer remuneration packages in local government and other public sector organisations.

�gThe increase is the first since Dr McTurk joined the City Council in May 2003,�h Mr Moore says. �gIn effect, it is made up of 5% to bring the package back into line with the market and an annual adjustment of 4.8% which reflects her extremely strong performance.

�gDr McTurk has successfully addressed a number of key issues and priorities identified by the Council when she was appointed.�h

The new remuneration package applies from the beginning of the Council�fs current financial year, 1 July 2004, and as in the 2003/04 year, includes provision for 10% performance pay.

�gThe Council has agreed with Dr McTurk a number of key strategic issues for the current year which will form the basis for performance payment at year-end,�h Mr Moore says.
