Christchurch expo examines Future Living, sustainable households

How can you reduce your household waste to around half a black Council bag a week? What can you do to keep down winter heating bills and make your home healthier?

For answers, come to the Future Living Expo at the Horticultural Hall, in South Hagley Park off Riccarton Avenue, this weekend (January 29-30). Christchurch City Council and the regional council Environment Canterbury are partnering to bring this Sustainable Households initiative to Christchurch.

Visitors to the expo can look at displays and learn about composting, water saving, energy and waste reduction. At 2pm on Sunday, they can hear a short introduction to the Sustainable Households course or pick up more information about it from the CCC or ECan stands at the show.

Each day, at 11am and 2pm at the CCC outdoor stand, Christine Blance (CORRECT) and Sue Wilkinson will give composting demonstrations, showing how to create both open and closed bins systems and how to use EM Bokashi.

œ For more information about the Future Living Expo, look on the web at www.futureliving.co.nz and at www.sustainablehousholds.org.nz
