Percy Scenic Reserve Track Upgraded

NEWS RELEASE
from Hutt City Council

4 February 2005

PERCY SCENIC RESERVE TRACK UPGRADED

The track from Dowse Drive through Percy Scenic Reserve has been reopened after being closed for two weeks to allow upgrading work to be completed in time for the start of the new school term.

Parks Services, Horticulture Assets Manager, Judy Robb says the upgrade cost around $10,000.

"This is a fantastic track and it was very important that the bush surrounds and feeling of calm and tranquillity were retained as much as possible," said Judy Robb.

"There has been minimal removal of vegetation and natural surfaces and structures and in the next planting season we'll be undertaking extra plantings of rare and endangered plants."

"The improved surfacing, grading and drainage combined with extra handrails and wider paths make this track more pleasant to use for residents returning to homes in Maungarakei.

Excell Corporation carried out the work, with design work being done by Civil Design Services.

Percy Scenic Reserve has many enjoyable bush walks, with [Hutt City Council's] Leisure Active 's most recent guided walk on the 31st January. For more information on guided walks coming up check out www.huttcity.info and click on 'summer'.
