Workshops for community groups on book-keeping

Workshops for community groups to learn how to keep their books in order

Auckland City, in conjunction with Hargrave Accounting Ltd, is running money-skills workshops to help community groups with their finances.

Aimed at small and new groups, the one-day workshops will cover tips on keeping good financial records and fulfilling Inland Revenue obligations.

“Often community groups find it hard to come to grips with various financial procedures and record keeping obligations. These workshops are intended for community groups that have little or no experience in these matters,” says Auckland City’s manager of community resourcing, Heather Owen.

The workshops will also cover the role of the treasurer and the requirements for an audit.

Chairperson of Auckland City’s Community Development and Equity Committee, Councillor Cathy Casey, says the workshops are just one of the ways the city helps community groups.

“We support community groups in a number of ways which can range from providing direct grants and funding through to enabling groups with useful tools and advice. This is an acknowledgement of the huge contribution that they make to culture, sport, health, education, music and arts – all making Auckland a more inclusive city,” says Ms Casey.

The courses will be held in Three Kings on Tuesday 8 March and Saturday 12 March from 9.30am to 3.30pm. Numbers are limited and registration is essential.

The cost is $20 per person and it is recommended that two people per organisation attend. A light lunch will be provided.
