Serious public health risks exposed

Serious public health risks exposed at tonight's ARC meeting

Media release 28.2.05

Serious soil contamination health risks to be exposed at tonight's ARC meeting PCAG (Panmure Community Action Group), RAM (Residents Action Movement) and SCAM (Soil Contamination Action Movement) are placing responsibility for soil testing, and for remediation of potentially contaminated sites resulting from past horticultural use, firmly in the Auckland Regional Council's court.

In a joint presentation to the ARC on Monday 28th February at 6pm, the three groups will point out that the Auckland City Council and the Ministry for the Environment indicated that this is an ARC responsibility.

The groups have also identified a far more serious issue concerning past horticultural and market garden sites posing a public health risk if the same land continues to be used for commercial food production.

These three groups last year forced the Auckland City Council into an about-turn on the tagging of LIM reports.
