Driver & witnesses sought for Hataitai hit and run

A 51-year-old man is critically ill in Wellington Hospital's intensive care unit after a hit and run crash in Ruahine Street, Hataitai, last night.

Wellington Police is seeking public help to find the driver and any witnesses to the crash which happened about 11pm.

Detective Ash Johnstone, Wellington CIB, says the victim, who has head and leg injuries, was walking south on Ruahine Street when he was hit by a vehicle close to the Badminton Hall. The driver failed to stop.

"The driver would know that they had hit something because our Serious Crash investigators have found broken fragments that are part of a headlight and indicator at the scene," he says.

"We're asking for anyone who was in the area last night to contact us if they can help with information," Detective Johnstone says.

The number to call is Wellington Police, telephone 381 2000.
