Albany Busway Station contract signed

Albany Busway Station contract signed

April 12, 2005

The Northern Busway project has taken another step forward, with the signing of a construction contract for Albany Park and Ride Station, between North Shore City Council and HEB Contractors.

"We are now on track to have the first two Busway Park and Ride stations - Albany and Constellation - open by the end of the year," North Shore City's transport general manager, Rick Walden, says.

"Albany station, to be built beside the Oteha Valley Rd off-ramp, will include a 370-space car park, service information, security cameras and pedestrian walkways. Construction on Constellation Park and Ride Station is already under way.

"Bus users will start to see some significant improvements in the public transport system on the North Shore this year, beginning with the introduction of new bus services in July."

The Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) awarded contracts in February for the new services, which will result in a 25 per cent increase in services, or 475 more bus trips a day. This will include much-needed new bus routes through the Albany industrial area.

"Transit New Zealand has also begun construction on the Esmonde Rd interchange and the Busway road, which will run alongside the Northern motorway, giving buses a congestion-free run," Rick Walden says.

"By the end of 2007, the Busway, five Busway stations, and the Esmonde Rd interchange will be complete. These projects will add up to a huge improvement in transport on the North Shore."
