New Manager for Papatoetoe Citizens' Advice Bureau

New Manager for Papatoetoe Citizens' Advice Bureau

Manukau City Council's Community Services are pleased to announce the appointment of Michelle Werekake-Apelu as the new manager of the Papatoetoe Citizens' Advice Bureau (CAB).

Michelle began work this week and comes with a wealth of experience within a range of fields including social services, restorative justice, as a facilitator and in project management.

Michelle is sure all of this background will come in very useful in her new role of running a citizens' advice bureau. She says, "CABs give information and advice about all sorts of problems or questions - all of which is free.

Key areas covered include a legal clinic for legal advice and a JP clinic, as well as an enormous amount of information on all aspects of life in New Zealand which can be very helpful for new immigrants as well as New Zealand residents: this includes advice on personal issues such as consumer problems, advice on setting up a business and dealing with troublesome neighbours; help in finding a doctor/counsellor/childcare centre/support group; and advice on housing/ tenancy and vehicle issues.

In a city which celebrates cultural diversity the Papatoetoe CAB also provides information in other languages and can put residents in touch with speakers of their own language.

Michelle is really enthusiastic about her new position, looking forward to serving the public. She reminds us, "We are always looking for more volunteers to help out and welcome enquiries from local residents who are able to give some of their time for this invaluable community service."

For more information about volunteer work, please phone Papatoetoe CAB 278 5191.
