Public view wanted for Point View Reserve
Manukau City Council wishes to gain community input for the future development of Point View Reserve. Point View Reserve is one of 16 premier parks in Manukau.
The reserve occupies the highest point on the ridgeline that defines Manukau's urban/rural limits and provides public access to panoramic views from the summit. Council has recently acquired an adjoining block of land to enlarge the reserve and extend the area of native bush.
"The Reserve will provide a natural backdrop to the increasingly intensive development in the area. Connecting Flat Bush Trail and the Ridge Top Walkway, it is part of the proposed citywide network of walkways," says Johan Ferreira, Manukau Parks Development Team Leader.
Public feedback will help determine the level of development and appropriate use of the reserve. Proposed development areas identified in the plan are: " Buildings and structures " Carparks and entrances " Walkway and track development " Recreational uses and education opportunities " Vegetation management and grazing " Signage and naming
"It is important that any future development of the reserve does not compromise the integrity of its natural and cultural values", says Mr Ferreira.
A questionnaire submission form is available on the Council's website www.manukau.govt.nz or, alternatively, to receive a form by mail, please contact Pari Katila on 262 8900 extension 8423.
