The Aucklander welcomes new Counties edition

The Counties region is getting a local edition of The Aucklander, NZ’s first community magazine.

The seventh edition of The Aucklander family, the first issue of The Counties Aucklander is published this Wednesday (June 1) catering specifically to the close-knit and semi-rural Counties community

Publisher APN New Zealand says the decision to launch a dedicated Counties edition results from successful trials conducted in the area since May 2004.

“The Counties Aucklander magazine, distributed free each week will specialise in local community issues, the people and the businesses” says Ewan McDonald, editor of The Aucklander

“Following on from the success of the Counties features in The Aucklander South, local readers and advertisers have been asking why they couldn’t have a Counties specific community magazine.

“Now with The Counties Aucklander they have their local publication, dedicated to their own issues with Counties-focused editorial and providing a strong connection between advertisers and the community.”

Award winning local reporter is Sandra Conchie, who lives in Papakura.

“The Aucklander is all about people, the people behind the issues, and what’s important to them,” Ms Conchie says. “I grew up in a rural community so I know how they work and how close knit they can be.

“It’s my job to keep in touch with what’s happening and what’s relevant to the people of Counties.”

The Aucklander intends becoming actively involved in the community.

“We deliberately put together a format that we believe is suited to the close knit rural / urban communities that form the Counties region.

“We’re already working on sponsoring events and are working hard to put together media partnerships that work hard for advertisers and community organisations.”

Papakura-educated and long-time resident Rob Miles, advertising representative for The Counties Aucklander ,is also offering a “fantastic loyalty programme” for advertisers running until the end of November.

The Counties Aucklander has a circulation of nearly 26,000 and is delivered to Pukekohe, Papaukura, Drury, Clarks Beach and Waiuku in the west, Takanini in the north, Happy Valley in the south-east and Tuakau in the South.

The Aucklander is now published in City, Central, Counties, East, West, North and South editions. It has an average total readership of 462,000 and is delivered free to more than 375,000 households in Auckland every week.
