Volunteers Needed At The Papatoetoe CAB

Media Release

Volunteers Needed At The Papatoetoe CAB

Can you spare 3 hours a week? Do you want to contribute to your community, or are you just looking for something worthwhile to do? Then the Papatoetoe CAB wants to hear from you.

The Bureau provides an information service, dealing with a wide range of enquiries on local attractions and activities; information in foreign languages for immigrants; help with locating speakers of foreign languages, help with finding services such as Justice of the Peace, local lawyers in Papateotoe and many other services.

The service is expanding rapidly and they need volunteers to fill some of the shifts.

Michelle Werekake-Apelu, Bureau Manager, says that volunteers are the backbone of the service, offering advice and information to locals and visitors alike.

"More and more people are coming to the Bureau with all sorts of questions. We need to make sure that we've got enough staff to help them, but also enough staff to make sure our current volunteers aren't giving more time than is reasonable."

She says people move away or get new demands on their time which means that the numbers of people available to work can reduce from time to time.

So, if you have a good knowledge of the local area and a good standard of English she'd like to hear from you. Volunteers need to have a customer focused attitude, a welcoming manner, the ability to work as part of a team and importantly an interest in the local community.

On the job training will be given. If you can help, call Michelle on 278 5191
