Gardening and the green six-legged tsunami

Hundreds of new kinds of plants and insects are invading wild New Zealand including Canterbury, according to Lincoln University lecturer Jon Sullivan.

Come and hear him talk about what we can do to stop them at the next Science in the City lecture on Wednesday 28 September, 1.10pm-1.50pm, at Our City O-Tautahi.

Dr Sullivan, a lecturer in ecology, will explain how keeping our gardens free of pests and weeds will help protect Canterbury’s natural world.

Science in the City is a joint effort by the Canterbury Branch of the Royal Society and Christchurch City Council to provide free lectures on topical scientific issues, principally for people who work and live in the central city.

Next month’s lecture from the University of Canterbury’s Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Ian Shaw will focus on food safety. How safe is our food? Is it more risky than the other things we do everyday? What can we do about it?

Lectures are held on the last Wednesday of each month, starting at 1.10pm.
