Roundabout welcomes buses

Roundabout welcomes buses

From today, motorists in Glen Innes will notice changes to the Merton Road, Apirana Avenue and Point England Road roundabout.

A 2.5m wide lane of concrete is being installed on the outer edge of the existing grassed roundabout centre.

Currently the roundabout is too small for buses and other heavy vehicles to get around without moving into the outer lane of traffic. The new lane will make it easier for large vehicles to move around the roundabout, improving safety and reducing disruption to traffic flows.

Kauri trees will be planted in the area, with one replacing the existing brush box trees in the centre of the roundabout.

The new concrete lane will be coloured red, with weedmat and mulch replacing the grass at the centre of the roundabout.

Work is expected to take a month and will be carried out between 9am and 3.30pm Monday to Saturday minimising disruption to traffic. The work is expected to be completed by Monday, 17 October depending on weather conditions.
