Talent search on for Pasifika Festival 2006

Up and coming performers are invited to audition on Saturday 26 November for next year’s Pasifika Festival.

The audition – called ‘Expressions Pasifika’ – is a chance for performers to show the judges why they should be performing at next year’s festival. There are a number of different categories: contemporary: dance; drama; music; cultural performances traditional: music; dance; cultural performances comedy choral arrangements vocal soloists bands.

Pasifika Festival Entertainment Director, Rick Tuiasau, says the auditions help organisers find a wider crop of new Pacific talent to introduce to festival audiences.

“The Pasifika Festival provides the opportunity to launch and showcase some of our Pacific artists on a big scale. The up and comers who win the auditions will complement the larger headline acts, some of whom got their start through the Expressions auditions years ago."

The judging panel, headed by the Entertainment Director, will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

Audition application forms can be downloaded from www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/pasifika (Performing at Pasifika Festival page) or by contacting Rick Tuiasau on (09) 353 9533. All contestants will be given a scheduled audition time on receipt of a fully completed application form.

Expressions Pasifika – Auditions: Saturday 26 November, 10am – 6pm, Mt Roskill War Memorial Hall, 13 May Road, Mt Roskill.

Pasifika Festival 2006 will be held at Western Springs stadium and lakeside on 10 and 11 March. It starts on Friday with the spectacular Air New Zealand opening night concert at the stadium, and continues on Saturday with a full day of performances, entertainment and festivities.
