Fantastic fun in the sun at Ambury Farm Day

Fantastic fun in the sun at Ambury Farm Day

20 October 2005

A record crowd of more than 21,000 visitors experienced a fantastic day out at Ambury Regional Park's annual Farm Day last Sunday.

Visitors described the event as the best yet as they moved freely through cattle yards, sheep shearing, and pet animal areas, experiencing a taste of farm life. Adults and children of all ages were entertained by magicians, dance and music groups, a team of clever German Shepherds, puppet shows, popular cartoon characters and storytellers.

Many took pony rides, mechanical bull rides, experienced the dizzy heights of a vertical bungy or went on a traditional merry-go-round. Competition was also strong in the gumboot throwing competition, the cow lotto and flag orienteering. Other visitors simply took in the atmosphere and the fantastic displays.

ARC Parks and Heritage Committee Chair Sandra Coney says Ambury Farm Day attracted a record number of visitors.

"Ambury Regional Park, which runs this family event annually, is a working farm with a variety of activities.

"Everyone had a great time, enjoying the range of attractions from pony rides and gumboot throwing. The entertainment was excellent and it was great to see some of our migrant communities participating. It was also wonderful to see so many families on the park, learning about ARC parks and other activities," she says.

Senior Park Ranger, George Iles, says that it was a wonderful opportunity for people to learn about our parks networks and that special thanks should go to all those who made this event possible.

"Many thanks to the sponsors and companies who provided their support. We would also like to thank the ARC staff who organised the event and worked with dedicated volunteers on the day," he says.
