Community Advisor for Manukau’s Newest Ward

Manukau City Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Sjimmy Fransen, Community Advisor for Botany.

Sjimmy, who began work on 1 November, has a background in public health, community economic development and also youth work.

As a father of six he also has an interest in family and community support and education. He speaks Dutch, Maori, Creole some German and has a long association with Pacific, Chinese and other Asian communities.

Sjimmy says, “It is my role to facilitate communications between the community and Council and advocate for community concerns.

“There are exciting opportunities for local people from all backgrounds to take part in the development of our community and its growth areas such as Flat Bush, where the new town is being developed.

“With the support of the Botany community I will focus on encouraging neighbourhood development, through consultation, and encourage interagency support for new settlers and advocate for the growth of cultural activities.

“My main aim initially, however, is to listen and take stock of what communities are saying as I become acquainted with my new role.”
