Council plans summer stream habitat survey

Media Release 16 November 2005 1 page

Christchurch City Council plans summer stream habitat survey

Christchurch City Council will this summer be completing a stream habitat survey in the upper tributaries of the Avon River, including the Dudley and St Albans creeks.

From early next month (December), the two surveyors will carry a measuring gauge to record stream flow, depth and width. They will wade up streams bordering properties to record substrate, bank stability, aquatic and riparian vegetation, and will be on the lookout for weeds.

The information will complete work started last summer and will be used for Council planning to do with its natural and physical assets.

The surveyors will be easily recognisable -- decked out in waders and wearing City Council photo ID badges. The survey is expected to be completed in March.
