A big thank you to Manukau’s volunteers

Media Release
20 January 2006

A big thank you to Manukau’s volunteers

In March this year, Manukau City Council’s community boards will host receptions throughout the City to recognise the contribution of Manukau’s hardworking volunteers.

Hundreds of volunteers, especially chosen by the public they serve, will be guests of honour at the events.

Manukau’s Mayor Sir Barry Curtis says, “Each year thousands of dedicated individuals make a huge contribution to Manukau’s clubs and organisations and the wellbeing of the people in our City. Most of these groups would fold without this commitment and it is only fitting that we thank our volunteers for the marvellous work they do.

‘These local community events will give us the opportunity to say how much we value their efforts, as well as raising community awareness of their vital work on behalf of our City”

Council would like to hear from members of the public about volunteers who are making a difference in their community and deserve recognition for their work. Nominees will be invited to their local celebration which will be held in March.

Nomination forms are available from Manukau Libraries, Citizens Advice Bureaux, Howick Information Service, community houses and recreation centres. They can also be downloaded from Council’s website: www.manukau.govt.nz. The closing date for nominations to be forwarded to Manukau City Council is 10 February.
