The Black Seeds at Auckland Zoo

MEDIA RELEASE

8 February 2006

The Black Seeds to serve up winning feel-good vibes at Auckland Zoo

The Black Seeds are guaranteed to get Auckland Zoo grooving to their original blend of funk, reggae, soul and dub on Friday 17 February; the fifth concert in the Coca-Cola ZooMusic series.

Since forming in 1998, the Wellington-based band has produced two top-selling albums and received nationwide recognition as one of the country's best live acts. With tickets already selling fast, the group's reputation for consistently selling out shows looks set to be repeated at this Coca-Cola ZooMusic gig.

Urban electro outfit, The Exiles, support The Black Seeds for an outstanding night of entertainment. The Exiles first showcased their cutting-edge music - a fusion of classical and hip-hop genres - supporting Katchafire at last year's near-sell-out ZooMusic concert.

The Black Seeds' set will offer a simmering selection of their roots-reggae repertoire; including the feel-good number, So True, from their successful second album On The Sun, as well as hits from their gold-selling debut album, Keep On Pushing.

The Black Seeds is one of seven hot Kiwi bands performing during the Coca-Cola ZooMusic summer series, which runs until Sunday 5 March. Upcoming concerts include Pluto (supported by Lucid 3 this Saturday 11 February), Don McGlashan & the Seven Sisters (supported by Little Bushmen) on 25 February, and Che Fu (with Ladi6) on 5 March.

"As well as offering an affordable night out hearing great Kiwi bands, Coca-Cola ZooMusic is fantastic way for us to raise much needed funds for our conservation work," says Alistair Kirk, Auckland Zoo's marketing manager. "We're absolutely delighted with the positive feedback and attendance so far, especially with such diverse audiences who might not otherwise visit the zoo."

Concert-goers are invited to make a day of it, come early, and explore the zoo with family and friends (please note that the immediate stage area around the Band Rotunda will be closed off in the afternoon for set-up and sound-checks). Pack a picnic, or purchase dinner and refreshments from the licensed Darwin's Café or the bar and BBQs set up near the Band Rotunda. A range of delicious food hampers can also be pre-ordered from Darwin's Café (phone 09 360 5261), and Weta Café will be open late.

Coca-Cola ZooMusic tickets can be pre-purchased at the zoo (ph 09 360 3805) or through Ticketek. With limited capacity, and tickets selling fast, we recommend advance booking. Tickets: Adults $20, Children (4-14 yrs) $10, and $50 for a three-concert multi-ticket or family pass (2 adults, 2 children). Friends of the Zoo members receive a 20 per cent discount on adult and child ticket prices only. Every pre-purchased ticket enters you in the draw to win some fantastic prizes, including a $3,000 music package from MusicWorks.
