Drivers - avoid Halswell Junction, Springs Rd

The City Council is repairing a large water main at the intersection of Springs and Halswell Junction roads, near Hornby, and is asking drivers to avoid this roundabout if they can until tomorrow evening.

A rubber sealing ring on the large water main under the roadway has failed and repair crews are working from the inside of the roundabout to excavate the area and repair it. It is expected the job will take until tomorrow (Wednesday) evening. The roundabout is open, but circulating at a slower-than-normal rate and traffic delays are likely.

The CCC would appreciate any assistance you can give us in alerting motorists.

The work does not mean any parts of the city are without water or sufficient pressure. This water main (steel piping of about 400mm, laid in the 1980s) is a feeder running in a loop between several pumping stations, designed so that if one part fails, water is still available around the remainder of the loop.
