Inspirational Lois takes on the Round the Bays

Inspirational Lois takes on the Round the Bays Challenge

Since joining the Clendon Community Fitness Centre* in 2003, Manurewa resident Lois Fisher has inspired staff and gym members with her commitment and determination to improve her health and fitness.

Lois suffers from Althetoid Cerebal Palsy when damaged areas of her brain cause spasms which interfere with her ability to coordinate controlled movements, for example speaking, eating and clutching objects.

Despite her disability Lois is never one to walk away from a challenge. This year she has again signed up for the Round the Bays fun run/walk. Previous attempts have seen her cover half the 8 kilometre distance, but this year her trainer at Manurewa Aquatic Fitness Centre Leslie Tuilaepa is confident she will go all the way.

“Lois has been training exceptionally hard for Round the Bays. Both staff and gym members are blown away by her determination and drive as she strives to achieve her goal.

“Achieving her own personal participation certificate for completing this event will mean just as much to Lois as winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

“Special thanks to Taxis United for agreeing to transport Lois to and from Round the Bays”, says Mr Tuilaepa.

For more information on the programmes that helped Lois get in shape for her heroic Round the Bays challenge contact the Manurewa Fitness Centre phone 269-0938.

*Clendon Community Fitness Centre is now relocated to the Manurewa Aquatic Centre - Nga mahi a Rehia situated in Mountfort Park, Sykes Road, Manurewa.

Testimonial from Lois Fisher’s Trainer Leslie Tuilaepa:

Lois Fisher has been a member of the Manurewa Aquatics Fitness Centre since the closing of Clendon Fitness Centre in June of 2005.

This year Lois' goal is to complete the full 8.4kms walking while balancing behind her wheel chair.

Since 2003 Lois has expanded her fitness training and is now participating in the Million Metre rowing club and has rowed up to 10000m in 1 day. To date she has nearly completed 300000 metres on the indoor rower.

She is training on the treadmill for the Round the Bays walking for up to an hour a day plus extra walking outside with her husband Graeme Fisher.

She also completes a daily weights routine almost doubling her resistance since 2003.

Lois now weighs in at 70 Kgs, 15kgs away from her goal bodyweight.

Lois continues to live a healthy lifestyle and is an inspiration for many that attend our fitness centre.
