Environment Theme For Drama Competition

Environment Theme For Drama Competition'

"Your Impact on the Environment" is the theme for a just announced category in the Nelson based New Zealand Radio Drama Competition produced by community regional access radio station Fresh FM.

"The Nelson City Council has agreed to be the sponsor of this category which we believe will bring to the fore stories about the passion, ideas and conflict that surround the big issue of the environment," said Kim Merry Executive Producer of the Competition.

"We are hoping the writers will explore the environmental features of air quality, freshwater and waste management. The scope for stories is huge."

The judges will be looking for storylines that highlight how human behaviour can lessen the impact on the environment, make better use of energy use, what is sustainable transport and how it might work for every day life.

"This is a great move by the Nelson City Council and is an example of how creativity, in this case writing for radio, can be harnessed to promote environmental issues," said Kim Merry.

"Fresh FM, broadcasting across Te Tau Ihu, which produces the New Zealand Radio Drama Competition is podcasting a selection of previous entrants online at www.freshfm.net," said John Bullock Station Manager.

"It is also appropriate to highlight the support NZ On Air has given to this project without which we wouldn't be growing this five year success story," said John Bullock.
