Agreement reached on WLR conditions

Agreement reached on WLR conditions

Waikanae Christian Holiday Park and Kapiti Coast District Council reached agreement on the Conditions for the designation for the Western Link Road at a mediation meeting in the Environment Court this week (Wednesday May 31).

Agreement was reached earlier with two other appellants; the Historic Places Trust and Mr Nigel Heard.

The Environment Court is now expected to schedule a hearing, probably in late July, to allow the remaining appellant, the Takamore Trustees, to present their views on the Conditions prior to confirmation by the Court.

“A lot of effort went into reaching agreement, and the Park is very pleased with the outcome,” Mr Ian Jones, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Waikanae Christian Holiday Park said. “The Park’s goal is to ensure the effects of the Western Link Road on the Park’s environment and amenity values are kept to a minimum, ensuring the Park remains viable into the future.”

Infrastructure Development Manager for Kapiti Coast District Council, Peter Knight endorsed Mr Jones’ comments. “The Council is keen to move on now and bring the full designation process to a conclusion as soon as possible,” he said.

“In the course of negotiations on the Conditions of the designation a positive working relationship has been established between the Park and the Council. Both parties are committed to working together positively through construction and operation of the new road,” Mr Jones said.
