Valley on the Port Hills.

Recreation tracks forced to close temporarily

Unusually high rain and snow levels during May have forced the temporary
closure of all recreation tracks that start and exit the Bowenvale
Valley on the Port Hills.

Walking, running and mountain biking in this area can contribute to
track erosion when its very wet, which increases sediment run-off into
the valley stream.

As well, a short, privately owned section of the track is used to feed
cattle during winter. The owners have requested that no access be
granted through their land while they are feeding at this level as hay
is getting mixed up in the mud and wasted.

The closure will be lifted when the landowners can feed stock on higher
grounds and when there is a general improvement of the tracks.

All entrance and exit points are clearing marked indicating the closure
and the reasons why.
