Travels to elsewhere: Graham Reid in the library

The popular Writers in the Library series is about to start again at the Central City Library. This monthly series, presented in association with Whitcoulls, is a chance to hear authors talk about their craft, their latest books, or highlights from their careers in the intimate setting of the Whare Wananga.

Graham Reid kicks off the series on 12 July. Graham will be presenting his first book Postcards from Elsewhere, a look at one New Zealand traveller’s odd destinations and unusual encounters, enlivened with his trademark dry humour and perceptive wit.

Graham is a highly respected and widely read writer, critic and journalist. He writes the weekly Snapshots column in the New Zealand Herald and contributes to a number of political and entertainment magazines. He is also a contributor to the prestigious website www.travelintelligence.net

Graham’s articles on Solomon Islands politics won the Media Peace Award in 2003. Postcards from elsewhere won the Whitcoulls Travcom Travel Book of the Year Award in 2006.

Readers’ Services Librarian Karen Craig says:

“Graham Reid’s travel stories appeal to imaginative people who enjoy a well-told tale that is often humourous, sometimes serious and always delivers a new take on things - the kind that is best savoured among friends around a formica table in a Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam.”
