Ten trees to be removed from Perry Street

Media Release 11 July 2006

Ten trees to be removed from Perry Street

An error in upgrading existing kerb and channels on Perry Street will result in the immediate removal of 10 Gingko Biloba trees.

Council Transport and Greenspace Manager Michael Aitken said that guidelines for construction work completed in close proximity to trees were not followed.

“Work has damaged the trees’ root structures to the point that they have been deemed unstable by Council arborists,” he said.

“Damage to people, property and overhead wiring is possible if trees were to fall over.”

A further 10 trees on Perry Street will be monitored on a quarterly basis and another six are set to be replaced following the kerb and channel work.
