Reservoir to Receive Major Upgrade

Reservoir to Receive Major Upgrade

Residents of Orewa, Hatfield’s Beach and Waiwera are in for a treat thanks to a major upgrade of the Maire Road Water Reservoir undertaken by Watercare Services and the Rodney District Council.

The 10 million litre reservoir, which supplies the area with most of its water, is getting its first upgrade in three years and the result, says Rodney District Council’s water services engineer Brett Clinton, will be better security of supply and improved water quality.

Mr Clinton says the new equipment that will improve the circulation of water within the reservoir had recently become available and it was decided to install it at the earliest opportunity.

He says the reservoir had been progressively drained in the past week in preparation for the work, which is estimated to take six to eight weeks. Workers would also take the opportunity to do general maintenance on the reservoir.

While the work is undertaken water would be supplied from the West Hoe Road reservoir.

Mr Clinton says there is unlikely to be any problems with quality or security of supply while the work is undertaken, although some households in the immediate vicinity of Maire Road may experience a temporary drop of water pressure in the event of a power failure in the area.

In that event, residents should contact the council’s call centre, 0800 426 5159, for information and advice, he says.
