Hilton hotel resource consent

News release

Hilton hotel resource consent

The hearing on the proposal to construct a five star Hilton Hotel has adjourned four weeks after it commenced.

Almost 1000 submissions were received on the proposal, with 155 in support, 3 conditional, 2 neutral and 834 in opposition. Of these, 51 verbal submissions were heard during the hearing.

“The location for the proposed hotel, on outer Queens Wharf, is a significant public site and throughout this process we’ve been very aware we need to carefully consider environmental aspects such as design, visual amenity, wind, noise and traffic effects,” said Al Cross, Acting Environmental Regulation Manager for Greater Wellington.

During the adjournment – the hearing panel of five will consider, and if necessary seek clarification on any outstanding issues. Mr Cross says the panel’s decision could be available in a month – although the timeframe may be extended given the wide range of complex issues around the proposal.

A copy of the Council Officer’s concluding summary to the hearing is available from Greater Wellington, Wakefield Street Phone 384 5708.
