Matiatia design finalists announced

Concepts from five finalists in the Vision for Matiatia design search have been endorsed by Auckland City’s Urban Strategy and Governance Committee and the entrants invited to submit detailed designs.

The finalists, chosen by the design assessment panel chaired by Professor John Hunt, will each receive $NZ5000 for their stage one concepts. The finalists are (registration numbers in brackets):

- Jasmax, Auckland, Roy Blok, (001)

- DJ Scott Associates, Auckland, Gary Marshall, (053)

- Open Studio Pty Ltd, Melbourne, Heribert Alucha and Britta Klingspohn, (073)

- ASC Architects, Auckland, Graeme Scott, (085)

- Royal Associates Architects, Christchurch, Te Whata Tapara (096)

Their stage one concepts, identified by their registration numbers, appear at www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/matiatia and will be displayed in the Matiatia wharf terminal and the council’s Ostend Service Centre, with comments from the assessment panel.

A stage two brief has also been finalised and forwarded to the finalists. If the finalists submit detailed plans by 10am, Monday, 2 October 2006 they will each receive a further $NZ10,000.

The final submissions will be also displayed on Waiheke, with opportunity for public feedback prior to inform the selection by the assessment panel of a preferred design for recommendation to the Urban Strategy and Governance Committee.

The winning design will be announced in November 2006 and the winner invited to work with the council’s Property Enterprise Board to implement the proposal.
