Eden Park neighbours to be consulted

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL

MEDIA RELEASE

Eden Park neighbours to be consulted on stadium development and local growth

Auckland City is to establish a consultation process for residents and businesses in the Kingsland to Eden Park area to consider the effects a redeveloped stadium may have on the neighbourhood.

The council’s Economic Development and Sustainable Business Committee says that the consultation will also give the community an opportunity to consider whether any changes to the district plan or other council policies or projects may be necessary to accommodate growth and change in the area.

Councillor Richard Northey, committee chairperson, said the decision was made in response to a request from the Eden/Albert Community Board and acknowledged that there was a high level of public interest and concern over the impact on the neighbourhood of a redeveloped stadium and continuing growth and change in the area.

“People have had the opportunity to make a submission on the Eden Park consent application. However, it is vital they can also have their say on the wider issues related to the development and growth of the area,” he said.

The results of the consultation will be reported back to the committee in April 2007.
