> Feedback sought for East Coast Rd widening

> October 2, 2006
>
>
> Public feedback is sought for aspects of the next stage of the East Coast Rd upgrade, running from Hastings Rd to Rosedale Rd, Mairangi Bay.
>
> The project is a continuation of widening work which has already taken place between Constellation Dr and Hastings Rd.
>
> Three aspects of the project that require public feedback include changes to the car park access at the Windsor Park shops, pedestrian improvements at the Dalmeny Cl/Sunrise Ave intersection and a proposed underpass linking Sunrise Ave to Rangitoto College. General feedback is sought on the overall plans.
>
> The work includes:
>
> * Intersection upgrades at the Hastings Rd/East Coast Rd intersection and the Sunrise Ave/East Coast Rd intersection
> * Widening East Coast Rd to allow for two lanes in each direction
> * A new painted median to allow safer access for vehicles turning in and out of driveways
> * The continuation of the existing cycle lanes from the Windsor Park shops to Rosedale Rd.
>
> Graham Nell, corridor project team manager, says that public consultation is important and he welcomes feedback on the project.
>
> "> We look forward to finding out what the public has to say, especially regarding the pedestrian underpass. If there is sufficient support we will investigate it further,> "> he says.
>
> Concerns have been raised by Rangitoto College> '> s principal and students about changes to the > '> gravel pit> '> car park near the college. The car park will be reduced to allow for road and footpath widening as well as an extension of the current bus bay. Measures will be put in place to ensure cars cannot overhang or drive over the footpath, improving pedestrian safety.
>
> Consultation brochures are available at the East Coast Bays area office and library, or visit www.northshorecity.govt.nz to fill in a feedback form online. Residents can also call Actionline on 486 8600 and ask for a mailed brochure. Feedback must be received by October 27, 2006.
