Work to begin on Lichfield Lanes Project
Work will begin on Monday on improving lighting and paving in both Struthers Lane and Poplar Street as part of the Lichfield Lanes project.
These are the first of four lanes in the area to be upgraded, said project manager David Pinkney.
"It is a part of a brilliant project which will make the Lichfield Lanes and South of Lichfield (Sol) a great place for pedestrians and café patrons,'' he said.
"The Council has a commitment to these areas and is keen to help make the inner city a vibrant, exciting and safe place for everyone.''
These two lanes are the first lanes to be upgraded, and the current work will be a cosmetic facelift only.
As these lanes develop and evolve, the Council intends to look at making the areas more pedestrian friendly, he said.
"We will soon be undertaking full consultation with businesses and residents in the area with the view to limiting access for vehicles at certain times of the day and night, which may involve the use of removable bollards etc'' said Mr Pinkney.
