Fire danger increased to ‘extreme’
Hastings District Council, in conjunction with Central Hawke’s Bay District Council, Napier City Council and the Department of Conservation, has elevated the fire danger warning across the region to ‘Extreme’.
Severe winds and soaring temperatures mean the risk of fire is the highest it has been this season.
There is a total ban on all fires across the area and this includes all open fires, incinerators, burn offs, fire pits, and wood and coal BBQs. It does not include gas-powered BBQs.
Burn-offs and fires extinguished up to six months ago can reignite during times of extreme fire risk.
The total fire ban (extreme fire warning) will remain until midnight on Sunday (11.59pm Sunday, 15 October).
If members of the public see a fire or signs of fire they should call 111 immediately. If they have concerns or questions about the fire risk they should call Hastings District Council on 06 878 0500.
