Performance Excellence Study Award

17 October 2006

City Council to receive its Performance Excellence Study Award

Christchurch City Council will receive its 2006 local government sector Performance Excellence Study Award (PESA) at an awards function in Wellington tomorrow.

Minister for the Environment David Benson-Pope and Minister of Local Government Mark Burton will present the award to the Council’s Chief Executive Lesley McTurk.

The Council is the only local government applicant to receive an award this year and it has done so on its first ever application. The Council was assessed for the award along with other leading public and private sector organisations and its success reflects that it is one of the best performing organisations in the country.

In the past 10 years, 60 local councils have applied for the award and only nine have received an award.

The award is a first step towards the Council’s goal to be world class by 2008. The Council participated in the awards to gain an external assessment of how well the organisation is managed.
